Our home was only six hours from the line of totality, so we drove down the night before and stayed near near Mt. Vernon, Illinois to see it. We drove around in the morning and found a remote spot on a gravel road surrounded by trees and farm fields, marked it on the GPS, and came back to it in time for the eclipse.
